NEWS: Gamecube Price Drop!
Gamecube price reduction to $99!
Previous news:
The Gamecube price drop is a reaction to the strategic move by Sony and
Microsoft who lowered their console prices by $100, from $299 to $199.
Playstation 2 price drop preemted
Microsoft's Xbox price drop. Initial
statements by Nintendo of America indicated that they would follow suit
if Sony dropped the price. Shortly after the price drop,
voices from Nintendo said they'd stay with their price. However, it is
not really surprising to see that Nintendo wants to keep the edge of
being the lowest priced console of the big three video game giants. Read

Nintendo has shipped more than 4.5 million GameCube systems worldwide, trailing Sony and Microsoft Xbox. Playstation 2 sales have topped 30 million units shipped.
These figures denote how many units have been shipped - as opposed to how many units have been sold to households.
Nintendo Europe going strong after price drop
In Europe, the Gamecube price had been lowered already. Nintendo reported that 75,000 GameCubes were sold during the launch
weekend, which could possibly be a new british record.
Among the top selling games were Rogue Leader: Rogue Squadron II and 2002 FIFA World Cup
- perhaps an indication that british video gamers belong to the
"mature" group, whereas in other countries Mario-like games aimed at pre-teens sold the
best. These sales figures demonstrate that the drop in retail price was a
success for Nintendo. Read more about the UK Xbox and Gamecube here.
