Gamecube RGB Scart cable
Please note, this information is written for the European Gamecube.
Most SCART cables available for Gamecube do NOT deliver an RGB signal but
instead wire the normal AV composite signal to the SCART, so that you
can use the Gamecube with a TV that has only SCART connectors. The only real
Gamecube RGB Scart Cable (Amazon.co.uk) comes
from Nintendo, but this cable does not provide any additional audio
outputs, so you only have your TV's speakers for sound, and cannot
connect your Gamecube to a Surrond Sound Receiver.
The same was(! read below) true for Saitek's GameCube AV Scart Cable. It can be used to connect the Gamecube (and also the Nintendo 64) to TV's with SCART connector, but it does NOT deliver RGB quality. We contacted Saitek about this, and in fact, the Saitek RGB cable now delivers full RGB for the Gamecube! Read the statement of Saitek's Tech Support:
"Due to unannounced changes made by Nintendo in the European Gamecube
hardware (like the removal of S-Video support, for example) the initial
batches of RGB cables did not provide an RGB signal - to my knowledge
nearly all the third party manufacturers were affected in the same way
and the only RGB cable that provided RGB at launch was (of course)
Nintendo's. We have since resourced the cables and they are now fully
RGB compatible. We thought that we had already dealt with any of the
initial batch that had slipped through but if you wish to pass any of
these customers on to us we can send out a replacement cable that
provides a full RGB signal, free of charge."
